Gilbert Study Grants

GGTuxAdministered by the Florida Flute Association Inc.

Geoffrey Gilbert provided a profound and long-lasting influence in the lives of many of today’s successful flutists. Through the generosity of many of these former students (particularly James Galway), the Gilbert Memorial Endowment Fund was formed following his death. To further the legacy of Gilbert, who never stopped searching for new and better ways to perform and teach, the Florida Flute Association now administers the Fund, offering Gilbert Study Grants of $1000 to outstanding teachers and performers.

  • A Teaching Study Grant will be awarded in even years to an adult currently teaching over ten private students. Selection will be based upon commitment to teaching, reasons for wanting further study, past contributions to students, and letters of recommendations from two current or past students or parents of students. The grant recipient’s report of the funded event may be published in the Florida Flute Association Newsletter.
  • A Performance Study Grant will be awarded in odd years to an accomplished performer who wishes to pursue further study in flute performance. A tape or CD of the required repertoire and two letters of recommendation (from conductor, former or current teacher, or colleague) must accompany the grant proposal.
